KIT207 - Self Study 1

I... have several years of blender experience under my belt, and while I will not claim to be any good at it I am good enough to forget to follow the tutorial... so that was pretty stupid of me.

Anyway, here's my barrel that I ACTUALLY made entirely on my own:

(this was rendered in Eevee which makes some of the shadows a bit... off. but it's faster so)

I started off by making a few google searches because it's been multiple years since I've been to a "traditional tourist attraction" and I needed to refresh myself on what exactly I should model.

I eventually settled on making one of those... tower... coin-operated... telescope... binocular... things. You know, the ones that your parents would give you a few coins to operate whenever you'd be on holiday and tell you to go look for something interesting? those.

It took a while to find an image of the inside of the Mt. Wellington Lookout though, and I have no idea who it was who took the photo but I'm not going up there just to prove that the thing that you find at every tourist attraction ever is at a tourist attraction.

Regardless, It's what I chose to recreate.

Here's what I was able to make:

These are based on the SeeCoast Manufacturing Company Inc. Mark III model Viewer. (seriously, I searched for 3 hours to find out who made these dang things.)

The one on the right is lower and has the large gap underneath it because it allows wheelchairs to fit underneath without hitting the pole. (a genius idea that I would never have come up with myself to be honest.)
